The Story: My nickname growing up was "Mindy," and
wouldn't you know it, I hit junior high about the time the tv show "Mork
and Mindy" became popular. I struggled with self-esteem issues
and the desire to be popular, as most girls do. My mom
encouraged me to see my value as the unique person I was created to
be, rather than who my friends were or what I was wearing. I
hope I can give to my daughter the gift of using the correct "ruler"
for measurement. Although I go mostly by "Mel" these days, I
have come to terms with "Mindy," and it doesn't bother me when
family members use the old nickname...well, not much anyway :)
